3 tips to help you make the most of your promotional plastic pens.
Promotional pens are the backbones of the office, they are the way of transferring those scrawls and ideas that you made on the best event you’ve ever designed into something beautiful and presentation ready. So it’s safe to say we appreciate it when we get the odd customised pen, especially if it’s a nice one. But how do you know if it’s a nice one? You could go for metal but it’s obviously more costly and if you’re sending these out to 100’s of people or giving them away at an event that could get expensive, fast. So that’s why we designed this guide to making the most of your promotional plastic pens.
Shapes and Practicality
Plastic pens have been around for a long time and have thousands of shape and style variations available. Where to start? You could go for a push action ballpen with a clip. Custom printed push action ballpens are great for slipping into your pocket on your travels or popping into your conference folder for use at your meetings. Or you could go for a stick style with a cap on top? These work well in office environment for leaving on the desk, not so well for on the road use because if you lose the lid it might leak and no one wants those notes you spent hours on ruined with ink. Maybe a twist action ballpen? It’s more difficult to accidentally release the pen tip and pour ink all over your work but some people prefer click action, probably just so they can repetitively click it in the office to annoy co-workers. Your personalised pen shape all depends on how and where it is going to be used.

Branding
Now you’ve chosen your style, what about the branding? You could obviously print to the barrel on one side. But if you want to get some extra information on there you could always diametrically print to both sides. For example, you could print your logo on one side and your phone number or website on the other side. It’s generally the same price and you can get more information on there for when it is in use. Sometimes you have a really cool barrel that you want your clients to see, so print to the clip instead. For a perfect example, check out our custom printed Prodir QS01 Ballpen. If you were an architecture firm, this personalised Prodir would work perfectly to show your dedication to design without taking away from the pen because your print would be on the clip.

Product Quality
You’ve got your shape and your branding sorted, now it’s time to consider the quality. If you’re happy for your customers to be taking a pen and then never looking at it again when they walk out the door, that’s fine. But we want your customers to love this pen and associate it with your company, long past the time they receive it. Here’s something worth considering - our promotional Senator pen range comes with a magic ink refill that contains around 6,000 meters of ink, in comparison to Far East counterparts that have around 300 meters! This means your clients will be able to use this customised pen up to 16x longer than the Far East equivalent. Not to mention they’re smear and blotch free for the lifetime of the pen.
What we don’t know about pens is probably not worth knowing and this is just the tip of the iceberg. From novelty style pens to match your sector, double ended pens and ones with styluses on the end, there is plenty more to understand when it comes to picking the right pen. It all comes down to knowing where it is going to be used and suiting it to your customers style.
