Small Steps for a Big Impact

By Tim Eke

At mojo hq, our journey to being green has seen us starting a new initiative in the office: recycling Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastics.

LDPE’s properties of softness, thinness and flexibility makes it ideal for packaging and can be seen in nearly every facet of our lives to the extent that BusinessWaste.co.uk reports a mind-boggling 19 megatonnes of LDPE being produced globally every year. It is one of the most commonly used – and wasted – plastics in the world. Unfortunately, the plastic’s strengths mean that it is tricky to recycle, often clogging up recycling machinery. This means that it is often not accepted by council-run recycling schemes and must be taken to a special recycling point.

We receive a lot of post here at Mojo HQ, which is why we have decided to start collecting LDPE plastics in a spare bag for recycling. While this might seem like a small step, we firmly believe that every piece of plastic diverted from landfills counts. Even minor changes in our habits can have a major impact when it comes to reducing waste and protecting the environment.

By making this shift, we're actively taking responsibility for our plastic consumption - It is a step in the right direction, and we hope to inspire others to follow suit.
